Stakeholder Meeting in Vietnam,

Stakeholder Meeting of Vietnam's prototype was held at Dike Department in Thanh Hoa on November 16, 2015. 19 participants from six organizations joined the meeting.

Mr. Dang Tien Dung, Deputy Director of Dike Department opened the floor for the meeting. He expressed his appreciation for JAXA and technical supporters.

After introduction of SAFE Overview presented by Mr. Ko Hamamoto of EORC/JAXA, Dr. Yoshimitu Tajima of the University of Tokyo and Dr. Hung Nguyen Thanh of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources (VAWR) reported the final results and outcome of their SAFE prototyping about assessment and evaluation of the erosion on the coast around Ma river estuary in Vietnam. Dr. Tajima reported result of analysis of shoreline change in the study area. He showed severe erosion around the river mouth of Ma River in the past 10 years. His team also developed the shoreline model and predicted the shoreline change in the future. Following prototyping results, Dr. Hung showed possible counter measures for the erosion. He analyzed the change of current in case of three breakwaters construction and showed erosion-prevention effect.

Through the discussion, officials of Department in Thanh Hoa understood the results of this prototyping and necessity of counter measure. For the next step, we agreed to share the results with higher level of the government and other stakeholders. We also had common understanding that we need to continue to study and create more detailed report toward operational use.
