Kick-off Meeting in Malaysia, September 3 - 5, 2013

The Kick-off Meeting of Malaysia's prototype was organized by the executing agency University of Putra Malaysia with the user agency Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority, FELCRA at the FELCAR office located at Ipoh on the 3rd of September 2013. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdul Rashid Mohamed Shariff, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Mr. Ragu Ponnusamy, the Director of Research & Development represented FELCRA as a senior representative.
After self-introductions, Dr. Farrah Melissa Muharam, delivered opening address. SAFE Secretariat introduced overview of SAFE initiative and the results of SAFE 5th workshop, and Dr. Farrah Melissa Muharam introduced background on abandoned land and SAFE prototype titled "Monitoring of abandoned agricultural land in Malaysia using remote sensing" which was approved in the last SAFE Workshop held in Nagoya, Japan on June 2013. Subsequently, Mr. Abdul Rahim Ishak, FELCRA, Mr. Ragu Ponnusamy and Mr. Mohd Faizal Shah, District and Land's Office of Sungai Siput introduced their activities and needs about abandoned land in Malaysia as the end-users. Then, according to technical suggestions from Prof. Wataru Takeuchi, University of Tokyo / Technical Supporter, several discussions were followed. After lunch break, prototyping team visited Pasir Salak & FELCRA Bio Valley in Seberang Perak. It was very good opportunity to share the overview of FELCRA's agricultural project related with abandoned land.
The next day, prototyping team visited the study site in Kg. Jasa, Perlop and Perlop, Perak organized by FELCRA and the other study site in Rancangan Tanah Berkelompok (RTB Jalan RE, Sungai Siput, Perak organized by District and Land's Office). In the field trip, prototyping team assessed those study sites for filed data collection in prototyping activities.
The third day, the kick-off meeting was wrapped up, and each action item and cooperative framework are confirmed.
