Stakeholder Meeting of Sri Lanka's prototype was held in Colombo on May 8, 2013. 19 participants from 8 organizations related to fishery (e.g. Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources) are joined the meeting. Dr. K. Arulananthan, Head of Oceanography, NARA opened the floor on behalf of the Chairman of NARA and introduced roles and activities of NARA. Several discussions were followed.

The national needs, present status and future vision of Sri Lanka fishery were shown in the meeting. The participants recognized that further improvement can be made by consideration of classification by seasons and water mass. They also recognized need to keep their effort of collecting fishing boat data to forecast effective fishing depth. In conclusion, they confirmed that information sharing among NARA, DFAR, fishermen and other stakeholders should be continued to apply the results to operational use system. One of the fishing vessel owner showed his appreciation on the results and he said he is a regular user of NARA information send via Fax but he is looking forward to see the implementation of VMS to get better fish forecasting data from NARA. NARA will show the further plan to use the results at the next workshop in ISTS.
