[ [Quick Report] Monitoring extreme heavy rainfall in UAE by Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) ] April 19, 2024
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced record rainfall on April 16, 2024. In the country where the majority of the land is desert, the precipitation levels were reported to be more than twice the annual average, resulting in flood damage in many regions.
JAXA is monitoring the precipitation from space through the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP). The present report is an analysis of precipitation in the UAE. The detail information from here

JAXA and NASA started to release near-real-time (NRT) processing products of the Global Precipitation Measurement Program (GPM) Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar product (DPR) version 07X at 8 UTC 16th January 2024. This version 07X is the first product to support changes in the orbit boost of the GPM Core Observatory. V07X is positioned as an experimental version, and we plan to continue calibration and evaluation, and resume providing DPR standard products (calibration verified) in March 2024.
