[ Announcement for the 5th Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) International Planning Workshop ]
August 25, 2005
The 5th GPM International Planning Workshop will be held from 7 (Mon) to 9 (Wed) November 2005, at Shinagawa Prince Hotel, Tokyo, Japan. In the Workshop, we will update the GPM status, and discuss the plan for full utilization of the GPM data not only for science but also for operational applications. For more details, click here.
[ Problems with Some PR Data ]
August 5, 2005
There have been some problems with recent PR data where some scan lines are missing. These problems are occurring in the transmission process between satellite and ground station. So, all PR data including level 1 and higher are affected by the problems.
The known affected dates and orbits are as follows:
Date Orbit
July 14, 2005 43661
July 16, 2005 43692, 43693
July 18, 2005 43723, 43724
July 19, 2005 43739, 43740
July 20, 2005 43753, 43754, 43755
The problems have not been occurred since July 21. In addition, it was known that this type of interference also occurred in November 2004 and in May 2005.
NASA is investigating the cause and the possibility that it happens again. Except missing scan lines, all data were processed normally.
[ New Orbit Viewer Version 1.3.5 Released ]
June 22, 2005
New Orbit Viewer (Version 1.3.5) released.
- Still capable of viewing all V6 products.
- Enhanced color tables for new V6 fields "e_surfRain".
- First Mac OS X compatible version.
- Continued SGI IRIX, Linux and Windows XP support.
We opened the JAXA/EORC Tropical Cyclone Database, in which both TRMM and Aqua/ADEOS-II pages were integrated. So you can search tropical cyclone data observed by TRMM/PR, TMI, VIRS, Aqua/AMSR-E and Midori-II at the same time. Furthermore, TRMM/PR three-dimensional movies newly appeared.
JAXA/EOC released new version of 3A25 product (V6A) processed by improved algorithm (V6.17) which corrected an error. The past processed 3A25 products are also being reprocessed.
[ PR Specific Area Data ]
May 6, 2005
PR Specific area data (Japan area, GAME area) acquired after 2001 was added to the data previously uploaded, the period of May - Sep., 1998 - 2000. Version 6 products, released last June, also started to be subset and upload to the server.
According to NASA, an error has been discovered in the 3A25 V6 algorithm that results in the corruption of the shallow rain fields below. These fields should NOT be used.
This document describes the algorithm
of the Precipitation Radar of TRMM. This is the final
edition for Product Version 6. See the TRMM PR Algorithm Instruction Manual (for V6)
page.
