Asian Water Cycle Symposium
The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, 2-4 November 2005
Guiding Goal
To better understand the mechanism of Asian water cycle variability and to improve its predictability, and furthermore to interpret the information applicable to various water environments in different countries, then to help to mitigate water-related disasters and promote the efficient use of water resources.
Objectives
-
Introduce planned and on-going demonstration projects and to discuss how to move toward observation convergence in Asia.
-
Design a roadmap that will lead toward a GEOSS water data exchange and sharing policy as a first step for establishing an ‘Asian GEOSS Water Initiative' and forging agreements on observation convergence, interoperability, and data management within the overall architecture of GEOSS .

3. Convergence of Observation
These presentations and discussions are directed at determining how can we achieve the GEO WC Targets:
Facilitate improvements in existing in-situ observation systems through coordination and optimization of existing in-situ networks and produce a plan for a network of sophisticated, integrated in-situ observation sites.
Facilitate establishment of an international coordination function for in-situ water cycle observations and data integration and dissemination and advocate eliminating barriers to the free and open exchange of data and software to enable full access by water managers in developing countries.
