Objectives

The 4th Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission International Science Conference will be held on November 13-16, 2012 at the Akihabara UDX GALLERY NEXT, Tokyo, Japan. The conference, following the 1st one held in July 2002 in Hawaii, the 2nd in September 2004 in Nara, and the 3rd in February 2008 in Las Vegas, is jointly sponsored by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This conference celebrates the 15-year anniversary of the TRMM satellite and the significant scientific advances made to date in preparation for the launch of the GPM Core Observatory by NASA and JAXA in early 2014. TRMM was launched in November 1997 as a joint U.S.-Japan mission to advance understanding of the global energy and water cycle by providing observations of rainfall and latent heating distributions over the global tropics. The GPM Core Observatory is designed to provide a new benchmark for space-borne measurements of rainfall and snowfall over the globe and to serve as a common reference for precipitation measurements from a constellation of satellites provided by a consortium of international partners from the United States, Japan, France, India, and the European community.

Program of the Conference was available (from here).
