JAXA calls the data that are provided to the public as products. There are three types of products (Level-1, Level-2, and Level-3) according to the processing level, and there are standard products and research products respectively.

AMSR3 Format (NetCDF)

NetCDF4 Format

The data format of AMSR3 standard and research products is NetCDF.

The data format of AMSR2 standard and research products is HDF5. The AMSR2 format description is available in the "GCOM-W" section of the Globe Portal System (G-Portal). However, for details of QC flags of research products, please refer to the section of each product in the AMSR Data Catalog.

Aqua/AMSR-E Data Format (HDF5)

AMSR-E data format descriptions can be downloaded from the EORC Data Distribution for Aqua/AMSR-E.

AMSR-E data format complies with AMSR2 HDF5 format from brightness temperature products (Level-1) ver. 4 and higher-order products (Level-2, Leve-3) ver. 8, so that AMSR2 tools can be used without modification.

Aqua/AMSR-E, ADEOS-II/AMSR2 Data Format (HDF4)

The data format for previous versions of Aqua/AMSR-E (brightness temperature products Level-1 ver. 3 or earlier, and higher-order products Level-2, 3 ver. 7 or earlier) and ADEOS-II/AMSR is HDF4.

Data format descriptions can be downloaded from the EORC Data Distribution ( Aqua/AMSR-E, ADEOS-II/AMSR ).

Please refer to the AMSR-E Format Description (HDF5 version) when using the latest version of AMSR-E products.

AMSR3 Data Viewer

The AMSR3 Data Viewer is a tool for displaying AMSR3 observation data mapped onto a geographic map. NetCDF data can be processed through area cropping and converted to binary, CSV, KML(KMZ), image(BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GeoTiff), and NetCDF formats. Video creation is also supported. For details, please refer to the "GOSAT-GW" section in the Tools/Documents of the Globe Portal System (G-Portal).

AMSR3 Product Attribute Reading Tool

The AMSR3 Product Attribute Reading Tool is a tool for reading global attributes and dataset attributes of AMSR3 products in Fortran77 and Fortran90. For details, please refer to the "GOSAT-GW" section in the Tools/Documents of the Globe Portal System (G-Portal).

Earth Observation Data Conversion Tool

This tool is used to convert HDF5/HDF4/Binary format products of JAXA's Earth environment satellites such as GCOM-W into GeoTIFF or KMZ format. For details, please refer to the "Common" section in the Tools/Documents of the Globe Portal System (G-Portal).

Conversion targets are Aqua/AMSR-E and GCOM-W1/AMSR2 standard products

GCOM-W User Tool

This tool can display AMSR2, AMSR, and AMSR-E data, map projection, image editing, and area cropping. For details, please refer to the "GCOM-W1" section in the Tools/Documents of the Globe Portal System (G-Portal).

GCOM-W1 User Tool targets are ADEOS-Ⅱ/AMSR, Aqua/AMSR-E and GCOM-W1/AMSR2 standard products

AMSR2 Toolkit (AMTK) for HDF5 format

AMSR2 Product I/O Toolkit (AMTK) is a library for handling AMSR2 and AMSR-E products (level 1 ver. 4 or later, level 2 / 3 ver. 8 or later) with C and Fortran programs. For more information, please refer to the AMSR/AMSR-E website AMSR2 Product I/O Toolkit (AMTK).

AMSR2 Toolkit (AMTK) targets are Aqua/AMSR-E and GCOM-W1/AMSR2 standard and research products for HDF5 format, except for Sea Ice Motion vector (SIM(Y)).

AMSR/AMSR-E Toolkit (ADIT) for HDF4

ADIT is a library for handling ADEOS-II/AMSR and Aqua/AMSR-E products (HDF4). For more information, please refer to the AMSR/AMSR-E website AMSR Data Input Toolkit (ADIT).

For the latest version of AMSR-E products, please use the AMTK above as it complies with the AMSR2 HDF5 format.
