Data Access

The JASMES, SGLI Near Real-time Data, and MODIS Near Real-time Data site provides various products in binary and netCDF formats derived from GCOM-C/SGLI and Terra/Aqua MODIS data.

1. Terms of Use of the Service and conditions

Users are expected to follow the terms of use described on this page in the use of the Service. Please read the terms and conditions carefully and agree on them before the use of the Service. (The "Agree" button is at the bottom of this page.)

To use the SGLI and MODIS data of JASMES (in binary, netCDF and text formats), please fill in items 0~8 shown below after the agreement and then press the "Confirm" button.

To access GCOM-W1/AMSR2 data, please use the Global Portal Service (G-Portal).

    Please be aware in advance that:
    JAXA does not guarantee the latency, quality and/or the accuracy of the information provided on the Site. Algorithms for the satellite data processing may be updated without any prior announcement. Data release (latency from satellite data acquisition to data preparation) may also be delayed without prior notification.
    Also, JAXA is not liable for any damage that may be caused by the use of this Site or the information on the Site.

  2. Images:
    When processing and redistributing the images posted on this website, to acknowledge the source of these images, please refer to the table below and describe the image content that corresponds to the sensor used.

  3. Satellite observation data:
    JAXA asks that those who use satellite data obtained from this Site please observe the conditions specified below. For matters not specified in the following, JAXA website policy and terms of service apply.
    • (1) The satellite observation data in any formats provided from this Site can be freely used (including commercial use) without restriction except for the required acknowledgement of the data source, as shown in (2).

    • (2) When using satellite data provided from this Site and publishing results in papers, reports, or other records, please refer to the table shown below when indicating the source of the satellite data used. For value-added data / products, please indicate the source of the original data.

      Example of supplier acknowledgement:

      "MODIS data provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency/ National Aeronautics and Space Administration."

      Example of supplier acknowledgement for value-added data and origin of original products:

      "Original data for this value-added data product was provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency."

    • (3) Utilization under agreements and collaborative research contracts
      Established agreements and collaborative research contracts with JAXA will take precedence over this agreement. When using binary data provided from this Site in accordance with such agreements and collaborative research contracts, please observe the terms of use specified in the agreement or joint research contract.

Climate Polar (sea ice) The SSM/I Antenna Temperature (TA) data were produced by Remote Sensing Systems (RSS).
SMMR Climate Polar (sea ice) The Nimbus-7 SMMR Pathfinder Brightness Temperature Data were provided by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
others JASMES Sea level pressure , Wind Speed and Direction Data GGLA data are provided bye the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

4. Registration of user e-mail address

Users’ registered e-mail addresses must be able to receive e-mails from this Site, which provides URLs by e-mail for downloading the data.
After user registration, this Site notifies the user that registration has been completed via the registered e-mail address.
If the user receives no e-mail notification or receives an unfamiliar e-mail, please send inquiries to .

5. Protection of Personal Information & Handling of Personal Information

JAXA handles the personal information such as names and e-mail addresses in accordance with the Code and other laws and regulations regarding personal information including GDPR and JAXA's rules on protection of personal information.
For details, refer to "Consent form for handling personal information based on GDPR" and "JAXA Privacy Policy".

JAXA doesn't use registered personal information except for the following purposes:

  • Statistic and analysis of data use
  • Questionnaire surveys to users for improvement of the Service
  • Response to inquiries from users

In addition, JAXA employs other companies to perform functions on our behalf. The functions include the system management, user management, and the >Water Cycle & Water Resource Management Research Group operation.
They may access to personal information to perform the functions, but may not use it for other purposes.

6. Management of account and password

User account and password are managed and used under the responsibility of user. JAXA is not responsible to you for any loss or damage or due to any other cause beyond the control of JAXA that may be caused by misuse of user account and password by another person.

7. Ownership of Data etc.

The copyrights of the standard products and other materials provided in the Service are the property of JAXA. Please use them in compliance with the conditions stipulated in "Scope and Conditions for Use of the Contents of the Site" in the JAXA's site (http://global.jaxa.jp/policy.html).

8. Caution regarding phishing

This site will not send any e-mails asking for confirmation or urging users to reenter their e-mail address or password.
If you receive an e-mail from a forged site urging you to reenter your user information, do not access the URLs given in the email nor open any files attached to the e-mail.
