  11 years have passed since the GPM Core Observatory was launched!

  11 years have passed since the GPM Core Observatory was launched from the JAXA Tanegashima Space Center on February 28, 2014! The GPM Core Observatory continues to observe the global precipitation till now. Taking over the will of TRMM, we hope that the GPM Core Observatory will live longer.

  Guidelines for using the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) was released.

  These guidelines are based on the GSMaP training materials provided by JAXA. These guidelines are intended to serve as a textbook for using GSMaP.

  Dr. Aoki of JAXA/EORC got the Yamamoto Award from the Meteorological Society of Japan in 2024

  Dr. Shunsuke Aoki, Researcher of JAXA/EORC, got the Yamamoto Award from the Meteorological Society of Japan (MSJ) in 2024, as “Achievements related to effects of low-level wind on the diurnal cycle of tropical coastal precipitation”.

  GSMaP_NOW Algorithm Revision Notice

  From December 1, 2024, GSMaP_NOW and GSMaP_Gauge_NOW will be updated to the revised algorithm version 8.
  GSMaP_NOW has been improved processing algorithm and GSMaP_Gauge_NOW has been fixed bugs.

  [Quick Report] Monitoring extreme heavy rainfall in UAE by Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP)

  The United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced record rainfall on April 16, 2024. In the country where the majority of the land is desert, the precipitation levels were reported to be more than twice the annual average, resulting in flood damage in many regions.
  JAXA is monitoring the precipitation from space through the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP). The present report is an analysis of precipitation in the UAE.
