NASDA plans to publish a Research Announcement (RA) for ADEOS and ADEOS-II in the end of January 1997. This RA, provisionally named "ADEOS Series Research Announcement 1997 (ADEOS Series RA 97)," is for enhancing and demonstrating the potential of ADEOS and ADEOS-II in clarifying Earth system phenomena. It seeks to solicit a wide range of researchers and group participation.
ADEOS-II, the successor of ADEOS, is scheduled for launch in 1999. ADEOS-II will be placed in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 802.9 km, with an inclination of 99 degrees, and a recurrent period of 4 days. ADEOS-II will carry the Global Imager (GLI) and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR) provided by NASDA, ILAS-II provided by EA, SeaWinds provided by NASA, and POLDER provided by CNES.
The following ADEOS and ADEOS-II science mission research areas will be encouraged in this ADEOS Series RA 97:
B-1 ADEOS(3)
B-2 ADEOS-II
B-3 ADEOS & ADEOS-II(4)
C-1 Stratospheric and Tropospheric Chemistry
C-2 Clouds, Aerosols and Radiation
C-3 Ocean Biology
C-4 Ocean Physics
C-5 Climate and Climate Change
C-6 Weather
C-7 Vegetation Biology
C-8 Hydrological Processes
C-9 Snow and Ice
C-10 Geography
The tentative schedule for this ADEOS Series RA 97 is as follows:
