Omishima Bridge

omishima_e.jpg This bridge was completed in 1979 after many complications like the postponement of the ceremony for commencement of the construction work because of the budgetary concerns of the government. By the completion of the bridge, the industries of both Omishima and Hakatajima islands had grown and the health care structure linking the two islands had improved greatly. This is the only arch bridge on the Imabari/Onomichi route. The total length of 328 m is the shortest among the 10 bridges along this route, but is the longest arch bridge in Japan.
