Hakata Oshima Bridge

hakata_oshima_e.jpg The Hakata Oshima Bridge was completed in 1988 linking Oshima Island and Hakata Island. It has an unusual structure consisting of 2 bridges, the Hakata Bridge, a girder bridge with a total length of 325m, and the Oshima Bridge, a suspension bridge with a total length of 840m and a center span of 560m. Hakata Bridge is the first long bridge with steel box girders in Japan. The Oshima Bridge crosses a noted rapid strait, the Miyakubo-seto.
