The Project Disc (SEA-2A)

Contents of the Project Disc

This disc (SEA-2A) is the so called Project Disc, which contains comprehensive information about the GRFM/GBFM project and the scientists and organisations involved, as well as technical details about the data products featureed on the SEA-2 CD-ROM volume.  This information is linked via the www interface you are presently using. If your browser supports frames then you should be able to see the index table for this CD-ROM on the left (if not, click 1stpage.htm to start anew).

While the three Data Discs (SEA-2B/C/D) contain the 100 m resolution mosaic tiles over Insular South-East Asia, this disc contains the corresponding low resolution (500 m and 2 km) tiles. In addition, to provide a comprehensive and synoptic view of the entire SE-Asian region, this disc also features low resolution mosaics over Mainland South-East Asia, originally featured on GRFM Volume SEA-1.

The 500 m and 2 km mosaics are available both as mosaic tiles, as well as as complete, regional mosaics. They are linked to the www browser and can be viewed either via clickable maps (click the "Tiles" and "Complete" links in the index window to the left), or from the linked Tile tables and Complete tables below.

Mosaic Tiles (500 m & 2 km)

The mosaic tiles listed below correspond in geometry with the 100 m tiles on the Data Discs. All tile data are given in Mercator projection, as described on the Data Product Sheet.

Click on a tile number to view the 2 km quick-looks and corresponding 500 m resolution images. These can also be viewed directly using most GIS and image processing software. The data files are located in the data/TILES directory on this disc.

Geographical Coordinates

The complete mosaics (backscatter) are also provided in Geographical (lat/long) Coordinates, to accommodate easier integration with other geographical data sets (see Data Product Sheet). The pixel spacing is 15 arc-seconds, or ~463 m at the Equator.

The lat/long mosaics are given in GeoTIFF format, and are not linked for viewing with the www browser. GeoTIFF is a public domain format based on the standard TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), which contains geospatial information imbedded within the image file (corner coordinates, map projection, geodetic datum, pixel spacing). Most remote sensing and GIS software can read GeoTIFF and import the geospatial information encoded. Plain image processing software such as e.g. Adobe Photoshop, which do not use spatial information, can still read the GeoTIFF files by treating them as normal TIFF.

The data files are located in the data/canvas/LAT-LONG directory on this disc.
