@The observation data acquired by PR is processed at EOC into levels 1 to 3. Details of data levels are as follows:
1B21 |
Converts the digital count value into the received power value and the noise level value following the algorithm (temperature calibration and calibration by propagation function) produced from the PR radiometric model. Longitude/latitude information is added. Determines rain/no rain for every angle bin and assigns flags. Also determines the height of precipitation. |
1C21 |
The dummy radar reflectivity factor (Z factor) during a rainfall is calculated from the precipitation scattering received power value based on the radar equation, from the calibrated received power value and noise level value calculated in the PR level-1B21 processing. |
2A21 |
With the result of 1B21 processing, calculates time and spatial average of ground surface scattering cross section from radar received power. |
2A23 |
Calculates qualitative information of the precipitation. With the result of 1C21 processing, outputs the determination of rain/no rain and the height of rainfall. When raining, detects bright band and if it is detected, calculates its height and determines as stratiform precipitation. |
2A25 |
Produces the vertical rainfall rate (mm/h) profile. The calculation method varies upon ocean/land/precipitation rate, thus multiple calculation methods are factored in to correspond various cases. |
