The Principle of Remote Sensing
Technology to observe the Earth's surface from a distant position by observation equipment on-board satellites and aircrafts is called "Remote Sensing." When any substance on the Earth receive the electromagnetic wave such as sunlight, the substances have the common reflective characteristic every wavelenght according to the characteristic of substances or when the substance is heated, the electromagnetic wave is radiated in the characteristic ratio every wavelenght according to the characteristic and condition can be measured without touching directly the substance by measuring the reflected or radiated wavelenght of electromagnetic wave and its intensity with sensors on-board satellites and aircraft.
Operation of Earth Observation Satellite
For this remote-sensing Earth Observation Satellite, the orbit of the satellite is determined so that the satellite may observe periodically the same point on the Earth (orbiting) at the same time (solar synchronous). Thus Earth observing data can be repeatedly collected by the Earth Observation Satellite and any changes on the Earth are allowed to be monitored in a global range in detail and over a long period of time. These observed data are received on the Earth and analyzed by computers, thereby we can apply the satellite to various fields concerned with our living from phenomena in the natural world such as global environmental changes, typhoon, volcano, floating ice, etc. to various environmental changes with human activities.
●Utilization of Earth Observation Data
We must process Earth observation satellite data more useful to users to refer to data gathered by airplanes and obsevation data acquired on Earth.
To do so, we promote the research on application analysis technology and develop data sets which users can easily apply to understand Earth environment system.
