Rainfalls in Okinawa area by TRMM PR

pr_image3_first_e.jpg

- Rainfalls in Okinawa area by TRMM PR -
(horizontal distribution of rainfall, and its three-dimensional structure)

These images show the rainfall intensity distribution when TRMM observed over Okinawa area at 17:35 to 40 on December 8 (UT).

The upper image shows the horizontal distribution of the rainfall intensity at an altitude of 2.3 km, overlapped with the cloud image (infrared) acquired by Japan's geostationary meteorological satellite, "Himawari".

The lower image shows the vertical distribution of the rainfall intensity of the spot cut at AB. The three-dimensional distribution of the rainfall intensity around Okinawa is fully observed in an extensive area. The powerful layer extended in the horizontal direction is a thawing layer and located at an altitude of about 3 km and about 80 km from A
