Melbourne

evg_melbourne.gif melbourne_map.gif

This image shows the central part of Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is located in southeastern Australia and is the second biggest city following Sydney. The city was first exploited by the corps of exiled immigrants from Tasmania in the British colonial era around 1835 and named Melbourne in 1837. The Australian Federal Government had been established since 1901 but was moved to Canberra in 1927. In this image, vegestation is indicated in green, roads and railways in fine lines and rivers and sea in light black. It is often written as "a city demarcated like a Go board", which is just the right expression when seen from space.

Let's think about the reason why it is called a park city. The surrounding area around the pond shown in red is Albert park. The red color of the pond means that it is quite muddy as it so noted when comparing with that of the sea. This color appears as green muddy water when viewed directly. Computer processing makes this change. At north of this park, is the Royal Botanical Garden and due north of the marshalling yards which are in the central part of the image, is the Royal Park. An oblong track and field westward from here is Felmington Horse Race Track. Additionally, there are other big and small parks here and there as if surrounding the city.
