At the right is the southern most part of Lake Biwa. The bridge over the northern area is the Biwako-ohashi Bridge and over the southern area, the Ohmi-ohashi Bridge. From the southern tip of Lake Biwa, the Seta River flows in, joining the Yodo River further on. Otsu city downtown is located at the inlet to the west northwest of the Ohmi-ohashi Bridge. The area crossing over moutains to the southwest is the Yamashina Basin. In the eastern end of the basin, the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) railway crosses over the Meishin Express Highway. The line running horizontally straight is the Shinkansen railway, passing Kyoto Station 1km further ahead after crossing over the Kamo River. The green belt of squere land slightly to the west of the area divided into two directions after going north from Kyoto Station along the Kamo River is the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The green land with a squere most to the southwest from there is Nijo Castle. The river running to the northeast after being forked at the Kamo River is the Takano River, while the mountain nearby to the east of the spot the river starts to flow into is Mt.Hiei. Slightly to the east of the peak, is seen Konponchudo, the main building of Enryakuji Temple. The river running to the southwest is the Katsura River. The mountain where the Katsura River crosses is Mt.Arashiyama.

Kyoto was built in 794 A.D. by Emperor Kanmu who named it Heiankyo. Almost at the same time, Enrakuji Temple in Mt.Hiei was established by a famous monk, Saicho. Kyoto was called "the Country of mountain castle", which fits quite well to this image.
