The southernmost tip of the Florida Peninsula includes the Great Everglades Wetland, with an area of 1,400 acres, twice as big as Tokyo. Part of it has recently been developed into reclaimed land and in particular the northern area has turned into an agricultural area. The northeastern tip of the image shows Miami city with its neighboring dry green area, where is a cattle ranch. The northwestern area of the iamge shows a wetland rich in water, while the green area scattered in a stripe is called "The island of trees" where it consists of a broad-leaved forest belt moving along with the wetland. In the center right of the image one can see an artificial square-shaped pond, which is a cooling reservoir for the huge Turkeypoint atomic power plant with its lenghth of 8km. The thinly reddish green open land slightly to the west southwest, or the center of the image is the Everglades National Park where the nature preservation regulations are strictly put into effect and tourists have only limited access. The southwestern tip of the image shows the southernmost tip of the Florida Peninsula. A narrow island in the southernstern part is called "Florida Keys", where a highway runs. The bay to the north from there is White Water Bay, forming a mangrove forest in the area. With the advantages of satellite observation, the vast area can be seen at a glace discriminating ranches from humid forest belts or broad-leaved forest belts, and thus enabling us to identify differences in geography and vegetation cover without much effort.
