As a continuation to the success of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have started a new initiative called the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) and have been conducting its mission formulation phase study to realize the core-satellite launch in 2013. In this workshop, we would like to discuss how to maximize the output from GPM in all parts of the spectrum that spans from scientific use of GPM data to operational applications by end-users in various countries.  In addition, ground data from a variety of regions will be critical for validating the GPM products.  Possible ways of collaboration in validation will also be discussed at the workshop.
