NewsWildfire and air pollution in Oregon

In this year, wildfires have occurred frequently since July and continued in Oregon, USA.
Fig. 1 shows smoke originated from many wildfires in Oregon observed by TANSO-CAI from August 29 to September 5. The yellow circle shows the area where the fire has continued to burn since early August. It is difficult to extinguish fires due to dry conditions and strong winds in the summer.
On September 4, a large fire occurred at Eagle Creek, located about 60 km east of Portland, and accordingly the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued air quality alerts for northeast Oregon. As an Air Quality Index (AQI) indicated 260 (usually 50 or less), the DEQ said people should avoid prolonged going out. The containment of the Eagle Creek fire is estimated to be November 30th.
