  AGENDA   ACCESS

The purpose of this workshop is to continue the discussion on the possibility of utilizing the global precipitation data acquired by the satellite observations in Asia as a follow up to the 2nd International GPM Workshop held in Tokyo May 2002. The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Satellite has been acquiring such data for more than 6 years. Based on the experience of TRMM, a follow-on mission called Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) has been planned. In this mission, global precipitation data will be collected more frequently and delivered to the users in near-real time.

In this workshop, we will:
  (1) overview the achievement of TRMM and discuss possibility of utilizing TRMM data in water cycle and climate research; and
  (2) discuss possible operational uses of future satellite precipitation data in GPM era in Asia.
